A Rapid Gender Analysis (RGA) is designed to provide information about the different needs, capacities and coping strategies of women, men, girls and boys in a crisis. SISTEMATIZACIÓN DE EXPERIENCIA “COMEDORES PARA LA PREVENCIÓN DE LA ANEMIA EN NIÑOS Y NIÑAS DE 6 A 36 MESES DE EDAD
El proyecto de ayuda humanitaria “Alimenta su Fuerza” en su segunda etapa, fue ejecutado por CARE Perú y financiado por el Banco de Crédito del Perú (BCP); su continuidad nació de la iniciativa para dar respuesta a la crisis alimentaria generada como consecuencia de la emergencia sanitaria por COVID-19 debido a medidas restrictivas que afectaron el ingreso económico de muchas familias y con ello la posibilidad de cubrir necesidades básicas. El proyecto tuvo como finalidad mejorar la seguridad alimentaria de la población en situación de vulnerabilidad, brindando apoyo alimentario con raciones nutritivas a través de espacios estratégicos como los comedores auto gestionados adscritos al Programa de Complementación Alimentaria de los gobiernos locales, a su vez de forma complementaria se incorporó un piloto para la prevención de la anemia en niños y niñas de 6 a 36 meses, que consistió en la entrega de preparaciones que incluyeron alimentos fuente de hierro, para ello se articuló acciones con establecimientos de salud y agentes comunitarios de la zona, así mismo se brindó acompañamiento a las madres o cuidadoras de los niños y niñas para que mejoren las prácticas de alimentación y accedan a los servicios de salud para la prevención y reducción de la anemia. Estudio sobre la situación de la seguridad alimentaria y las prácticas de alimentación infantil en hogares del ámbito de intervención del proyecto “Ella Alimenta el mundo”
CARE Perú es una Organización No Gubernamental que ha venido trabajando por mas de 50 años en intervenciones comunitarias para mejorar la nutrición y desarrollo en niñas y niños, alrededor de todo el país.
El presente estudio, buscó obtener información de primera mano sobre el estado actual de algunos de los indicadores del componente nutricional del proyecto del proyecto “Ella Alimenta al Mundo”, con la finalidad analizar los posibles efectos que pudieron darse un año después de la Línea de Base y considerando los potenciales factores influyentes en estos indicadores de estudio, en el contexto de la pandemia por COVID-19.
Ante ello, la consultora responsable del estudio diseñó y adaptó un protocolo adecuado con las variables de estudio que pudieran ser medidas de manera online (vía telefónica) como lo han venido haciendo otras intervenciones y estudios en salud pública alrededor del mundo, dado el contexto de la pandemia. La recolección de datos se dio entre los meses de junio y julio del 2021 bajo la modalidad telefónica teniendo en cuenta las restricciones de tránsito y recomendaciones vigentes de los organismos gubernamentales para evitar la propagación de COVID-19 en el país. Se reclutó un equipo de 11 encuestadores con formación de nutrición, quienes fueron designados a tres equipos según ámbito de estudio: i) Piura (Sullana), ii) Ica (San José de los Molinos y Subtanjalla) y iii) –Lima (Pachacámac), quienes aplicaron las encuestas bajo la supervisión de los especialistas y practicantes de cada ámbito, además de la consultora, asegurando la total objetividad y precisión de la información recolectada.
El estudio recolectó información de 569 niños menores de 5 años acerca de sus indicadores sociodemográficos e inseguridad alimentaria, así como también información en prácticas de alimentación infantil en un total de 115 niños menores de 24 meses.
El presente informe final de la evaluación de medio tiempo, resume los resultados de esta información según los indicadores clave y por distritos.

Assessment on the Impact of the El Niño Event in PNG, October 2015
Papua New Guinea (PNG) is currently experiencing the effects of an El Niño event, which includes warmer weather and significantly reduced rainfall. According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Papua New Guinea and the Australian Bureau of Meteorology, this dry hot spell, which began in May 2015, will continue into early 20161.
In order to better understand the needs and capabilities of affected communities, CARE International in PNG (CARE PNG) undertook a series of assessments in three droughtaffected provinces between September 21 and October 2 2015. In parallel to the needs assessments, CARE PNG did a rapid gender analysis on the differing impact of the drought on women, men, girls and boys. Emergency cash transfers, nutrition and livelihood assistance for chronically food insecure households in Malawi (2016-17)
In May 2016, the Government of Malawi (GoM), assessed 6.5 million people out of total population of 16.8M (39 percent) would not be able to meet their annual food requirements during the 2016/17 consumption period. Additionally, over 1.8 million people were in need of agricultural inputs to restore their livelihoods. About 31 per cent of the cultivated land was affected by the drought, of which 13 per cent was severely affected. Poor nutrition and increased mortality rates were of particular concern in 24 out of a total of 28 districts. Approximately 975,000 children aged 6-23 months and pregnant and lactating women were particularly at risk of food insecurity and malnutrition and requiring nutritional treatment.
The high level of food insecurity was due to two consecutive years of below average production of all key agricultural crops. In 2014/15 Malawi had the worst growing season for seven years, and this was followed by the worst floods in history in January 2015 and then widespread prolonged dry spells. Malawi was then severely impacted by one of the strongest El Niño events in 35 years. This climactic phenomenon has brought below average rainfall in the central and southern regions, and higher than normal rainfall in the north of the country. In response the food insecurity, the President of Malawi declared a state of disaster on 12 April 2016.
In order to address the significant challenges posed by El Niño in Malawi, CARE proposed a comprehensive cash transfer, nutrition and livelihoods response to reduce the vulnerability crisis-affected people, especially women, girls and boys in Salima. The project focuses on three immediate outcomes. First, the project will improve capacity of at-risk populations to meet basic needs and reduce negative coping strategies through cash transfers. Second, the project will focus on improving the nutritional status of women and children through awareness raising, demonstrations of best practices related to food preparing and provision of kitchen garden inputs. Finally, the project will increase the self-reliance of at risk population through the provision of seeds and tools as well as training on post-distribution harvest and storage techniques. [19 pages]

Improving Agricultural Production and Access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene for Drought Affected Population Baseline
CARE International in Zimbabwe through funding from USAID OFDA is responding to current El Niño phenomenon which affected Zimbabwe in 2015-16 Agriculture season. The El Niño induced drought is anticipated to be one of the most severe in the past 35 years. Findings from the ZimVAC Assessment (2016) indicate that food insecurity has risen to affect at least 2.4 million people (26% of the total rural population); Masvingo Province has one of the highest proportions of food insecure people (32%) in the country. Highlands El Niño WASH and Agriculture Resilience Project
To respond to the need for improved access to clean water, CARE proposed a WASH repsonse to the Australian High Commission in PNG and was granted 450,000AUD to carry out the proposed activities. After the signing of the grant agreement, the Australian Government gifted 35,000 jerry cans to the project – which meant the project was able to reallocate some of the funds to drought adaptive agriculture activities.
