Promoting Opportunities for Women’s Economic Empowerment Project Analysis of Effects of Linkage
This report focuses on the effects of CARE’s POWER/PROFIR (Promoting Opportunities for Women’s Economic Empowerment) project on the financial health of village savings and loans groups in Cote d’Ivoire and Rwanda. The project is a collaboration between CARE Canada, Access Africa, and MasterCard Foundation. CARE International is one of the world’s leading organizations in the promotion of Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) in Africa, reaching more than 3.5 million people in 26 countries. CARE’s POWER project aims to determine the relative benefit of formal financial links for savings groups, households and individuals, and banks in Burundi, Ethiopia, Cote d’Ivoire, and Rwanda. Projet d’Appui à l’Accès aux Services Sociaux de Base des Communautés Villageoises Productrice de Cacao des Départements de Daloa et San-Pédro ou « Projet Cargill »
Le « projet d’appui à l’accès aux services sociaux de base des communautés villageoises productrice de cacao des départements de Daloa et San-Pédro» ou « Projet Cargill » est exécuté sur une période de 2 ans par CARE. Il a pour objectif d’améliorer les conditions de vie des planteurs de 10 localités se trouvant dans les zones d’intervention des 2 premières coopératives agricoles certifiées UTZ que sont : COOPAGA (à San-pédro) et CAFD (à Daloa). A l’issu de l’évaluation finale externe reposant sur une approche mixte (qualitative et quantitative) la pertinence, la cohérence, l’efficacité, l’efficience et la durabilité du projet ont été appréciées. Promotion de l’Acces Aux Toilettes et Aux Emplois a Bouake et Katiola a Travers la Reutilisation des Boues et Des Urines (PATER)
La zone septentrionale de la Côte d’Ivoire se singularise par l’extrême pauvreté de ses populations et l’insalubrité de l’environnement urbain, exacerbées par l’absence d’investissement durant la décennie d’instabilité politique et de conflits armé 2002-2011. L’appel à propositions de la Facilité Africaine de l’Eau (FAE) en 2011 pour des projets d’assainissement autonome en milieu urbain défavorisé a été mis à profit par l’Union des Villes et Communes de Côte d’Ivoire (UVICOCI). Le projet s’appuie sur les leçons tirées des initiatives pilotes de CARE et de l’Agence intergouvernementale Eau et Assainissement pour l’Afrique (EAA) dans ces dites communes. L’exécution de ce projet permettra aux communes de Côte d’Ivoire, regroupées au sein de l’UVICOCI, de disposer d’une stratégie : (i) de promotion de l’accès des ménages aux toilettes adaptées et aux services de vidange des produits (urine et boues); (ii) d’amélioration des rendements agricoles et pour la promotion de produits bio par la réutilisation de ces produits de vidange traités comme amendements organiques (boues traitées) et en prévention de l’enherbement (urine) en substitution aux intrants chimiques (engrais et herbicides), coûteux et peu accessibles dans ce contexte de pauvreté accentuée; (iii) d’amélioration de la qualité de leur environnement; (iv) et pour le développement socio-économique et de création de nouveaux métiers et d’opportunités d’emplois pour les jeunes et les femmes grâce à l’émergence de micro-entreprises, spécialisées dans la gestion des toilettes et des produits de vidange. Women for Change (W4C): Situation socio-économique de référence des femmes rurales dans le Département de Guéyo
Exécuté par Care Côte d’Ivoire avec un financement de Mars Inc. le Projet « Women for Change » (W4C) est dans sa phase expérimentale dans 14 localités du département de Gueyo (région de la Nawa). Son objectif est de réduire la marginalisation des femmes rurales et contribuer à renforcer leur autonomisation socio-économique. Pour atteindre cet objectif, le Projet met l’accent sur la mise en œuvre d’initiatives qui favorisent l’accès des femmes à l’information et aux opportunités économiques, qui améliorent leur statut et leur position sociale au sein de la communauté ainsi que leur participation aux processus de prise de décisions. A reflective, formative Mid-term Evaluation (MTE) of the Promoting Opportunities for Women’s Economic Empowerment in Rural Africa (POWER)/Promoting Opportunities for Financial Inclusion project in Rwanda (PROFIR) Program, commissioned by CARE Canada and the MasterCard Foundation (MCF), was implemented over a period of six months, from January to June 2016. POWER Africa Cote d’Ivoire Rolling Baseline Report 2017
POWER Africa, CARE’s Promoting Economic Opportunities for Women’s Empowerment in Rural Africa Project, is a USD $13 million, 4-year project, funded by the MasterCard Foundation which aims to increase financial inclusion in Burundi, Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia and Rwanda through the VSLA approach, while also creating a platform for sharing lessons learned within and between the four target countries.
Three years into the project there are 141,294 VSLA members in 6,433 groups.
This panel study, using 17 trained enumerators in six groups according to zones, carried out 360 1:1 interviews with VSLA members, examining their lives before VSLAs and now. Also interviewed as a control were 204 non-VSLA members. Additional evidence was gathered from a number of VSLA and non-VSLA focus groups. [26 pages]

Adaptation Learning Programme (ALP) for Africa Narrative Report
This 103 page report for the Adaptation Learning Programme (ALP) covers an extension period from July 2015 to June 2017. The extension period was funded by UKAid at the Department for International Development and Denmark’s Fund for Climate and Environment for NGOs managed by Civil Society in Development, as well as funds from the Australian Development Agency. The original ALP goal was maintained in the extension period: ‘to increase the capacity of vulnerable households in sub-Saharan Africa to adapt to climate variability and change,’ while the purpose was slightly modified: ‘Community-based adaptation (CBA) approached for vulnerable communities incorporated into development policies and programmes in Ghana, Kenya, and Niger, and replication ongoing in other countries in Africa.’ Read More...
