Social inclusion through team sports and education: sport for development
Dysfunctional family relationships make the social integration of children into a regular school career more difficult and put a strain on them, and accordingly also reduce the children's future prospects. One of the most important prevention and protection mechanisms for the successful development of children is therefore their inclusion in the public school system. Unfortunately, parents and schools do not offer the children the support they need to successfully complete primary and secondary school (primary school / primary school grades 1 to 9 and secondary school another 4 years). The premature drop-out rate from school for Roma children and other disadvantaged / vulnerable children in Bijeljina is high. Diverse efforts are necessary for disadvantaged / vulnerable children to remain successfully in the Bosnian school system. Children need separate learning support, an incentive to attend school regularly and to improve their social skills. Parents' awareness of education must also be heightened and communication between home and school intensified. At the same time, prejudices on the part of the school (and the majority society) against children in the relevant settlement must be broken down; but at the same time the fear of the Roma community about state institutions must be reduced. The "Sports for Social Change" project addresses all of these interfaces and has already achieved far-reaching successes through the innovative use of football as an inclusion method in combination with non-formal educational offers, which must now be consolidated and expanded. KIWI kids – Kids Welcome Initiative: Life skills, education and the promotion of integration of refugees in primary schools in Germany
Seit Anfang 2015 sind mehr als eine Millionen Menschen neu nach Deutschland gekommen. Rund 40 Prozent der Zugewanderten befinden sich im schulpflichtigen Alter. Anders als in höheren Altersgruppen ist in diesem Alterssegment der Anteil von Mädchen gegenüber Jungen gleich hoch. Damit können in diesen Altersklassen insbesondere zugewanderte Mädchen gestärkt und gefördert werden. Studien zufolge sind Schulen mehrheitlich noch nicht ausreichend auf die Herausforderung der Arbeit mit zugewanderten Schüler*innen vorbereitet (z.B. IQB-Bildungstrends 2018). Dafür benötigen Lehrkräfte insbesondere interkulturelle Kompetenzen. Diese neue Situation verlangt von allen in Deutschland lebenden Menschen vermehrte Anstrengungen aufeinander zuzugehen. Ein gutes Zusammenleben macht es erforderlich, die Selbstwirksamkeit von (zugewanderten) Menschen zu stärken und sie zu aktiven Mitgestaltenden der Gesellschaft zu machen. Daraus folgt, dass der Zugang zu Integration und gesellschaftlicher Teilhabe über die Sozialisationsinstanz „Schule“ nicht früh genug erfolgen kann. Das KIWI kids-Projekt setzt dort an.
KIWI steht für die Begriffe „Kultur“, „Interkulturalität“, „Werte“ und „Initiative“. Ziel des KIWI kids- Projektes ist es, durch Soziales und Interkulturelles Lernen die Integrationspotentiale sowie das Engagement von Kindern mit Flucht- oder Migrationsgeschichte und deren Lehr- und Fachkräfte nachhaltig zu stärken. Damit werden Klassen- und Schulgemeinschaften bei einer nachhaltigen, diversitätssensiblen Öffnung und Schulentwicklung unterstützt. Ein besonderer Fokus des KIWI kids- Projektes liegt dabei auf dem Empowerment von Kindern, der Stärkung ihrer Selbstwirksamkeit sowie dem Abbau von Diskriminierung zwischen Kindern diverser kultureller Identitäten. Refugee Assistant Initiative in Liberia (RAIL) End of Project Impact Survey
The RAIL project designed to help the UNHCR to provide basic assistance to refugees by strengthening their existing capacity, while promoting self-reliance and livelihoods, is a multi-sector project.
The project was looking at water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), livelihood with focus on Village Saving and Loan Associations (VSLA) and support to the education of the refugee children, through Early Childhood Education, meant to help develop and mold the minds of the children in their early years while their brains are still pliable.
This multi-faceted approach enhances the protection of the rights of refugees in order to maintain a favorable environment and sustained local integration for those wanting to stay in Liberia. [11 pages] Read More...
