CONSORTIUM PROJECT “CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS & POLICY DIALOGUE” IN EAST AFRICA

The Consortium Project “CSOs & Policy Dialogue – Further strengthening capacities of CSOs engaging in Policy Dialogue” is a three years programme funded by the Austrian Development Agency (ADA). Specific project objective is to “Further strengthen capacities of East African CSOs regarding their policy dialogue engagement”. Expected results included: i) Capacity development and cross-learning plan for partner CSOs is developed; ii) The ability of East African CSOs to engage in policy dialogue has been further strengthened in their field of work; iii) Recommendations/ guidelines for CSOs engagement in Policy Dialogue are further complemented and used/ applied. The project implemented two approaches: i) Collective training workshops, as well as cross-learning and organization focused Capacity Development activities, guided by a capacity development plan; ii) Partner Organizations plan and implement their own Small Action Fund Initiatives, aiming at influencing policy making spaces, and allowing them to develop their own Policy Dialogue Strategies, and to test and consolidate different methods and approaches for effective engagement along the Policy Cycle.

The Objective of this evaluation was to assess the design and implementation, fulfilment of objectives and achievement of expected results. Socio-Economic Status Analysis for Potential Job Creation Interventions Assessment Report

CARE Ethiopia is implementing a three-year project entitled “Water for Food Security, Women’s Empowerment and Environmental Protection (SWEEP)” in East and West Belesa Woredas of Central Gonder Zone, Amhara Regional State. The project focuses on marginalized rural women and girls, people with disabilities and unemployed youth. As one of the project activities, this “socio-economic status analysis of unemployment among youth (15-29) and other vulnerable target groups (female family heads and persons with disability) for potential job creation interventions” was conducted.
In this assessment, the sustainable livelihood analysis framework was used to understand the socio- economic context of the target group. Read More...

SWEEP-Water for Food Security, Women’s Empowerment and Environmental Protection in East and West Belesa Project

CARE Ethiopia, with the financial support from the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), will implement a three years’ project entitled “Water for Food Security, Women’s Empowerment and Environmental Protection (SWEEP)” Project in East and West Belesa Woredas of Central Gonder Zone, Amhara Regional State. The SWEEP project will address the socio-economic and environmental problems causing food insecurity in East and West Belesa, including poor access to water supply and environmental degradation; social barriers and gender inequality; as well as limited livelihood opportunities and low productivity. As part of the inception phase of the project, this particular baseline survey has been carried out with the ultimate aim of gathering evidence from different sources and set benchmarks and baseline values for each project outcome indicator. The Nawiri Project: Stories and Best Practices

The Siaya Maternal and Child Nutrition Nawiri Project is a 36-month intervention on maternal and child nutrition. The project targets to reach 94,435 children under 5 years; 127,065 women of reproductive age; 42,000 adolescent girls and 20,000 men in the Siaya County. The project is executed in partnership among three consortium members; CARE (the coordinator), Family Health Options Kenya (FHOK) and the Kisumu Medical and Education Trust (KMET) in Siaya County with funding support from the European Union, the Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC) and CARE.
The overall objective of the project is to contribute to improving maternal, infant and young child nutrition (MIYCN), including nutrition of women of reproductive age in Siaya County. In order to increase the nutritional status of children under the age of five and of women of reproductive age, the project aims to alleviate the most severe obstacles of poor MIYCN in Siaya County. Kisumu Integrated Family Health Project: Endterm Review Final Report

The Kisumu Integrated Family Health Project (KIFHP) is a three year project (November 2014 – October 2017) funded by the European Union (EU) with co-funding from the Austrian Development Cooperation (ADA) and CARE Austria. The project is implemented by CARE International in Kenya (CIK) in partnership with the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) and Family Health Options Kenya (FHOK). The project is implemented in Kisumu urban slums of Manyatta and Nyalenda and works closely with Kisumu County Government under Kisumu East Sub-County. The project aims to primarily contribute to achieving sustainable development goal 3 (SDG)and former MDGs 4 and 5 a +b-“Reduce by two thirds the under-five mortality rate”, “Reduce by three quarters the maternal mortality ratio” and “Achieve universal access to reproductive health”. Kisumu Integrated Family Health Project: Midterm Review Report

CARE International in Kenya (CIK) in partnership with the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) and Family Health Options Kenya (FHOK) have been implementing a 3 year project in Kisumu urban slums of Manyatta and Nyalenda and works closely with Kisumu County Government under Kisumu East Sub-County. The overall objective of the KIFHP is to Improve Maternal and Child Health, Sexual Reproductive Health, Family Planning and nutritional status of communities living within Kisumu slums.

The specific objectives of the Midterm evaluation were: to assess the effectiveness of project interventions, assess the efficiency of approaches used in implementation of project activities, assess the project implementation progress at mid-term level and its relevance within the prevailing context of devolved health system of governance and assess project sustainability mechanism. STORIAN BLONG YUMI PROJECT EVALUATION

The purpose of this evaluation is “to assess whether or not the Community Scorecard (CSC) approach as adapted to Vanuatu through the Storian Blong Yumi pilot (SBY) project offers a viable model for community-centred social accountability in Vanuatu and to document lessons from the pilot for future application”.
The Storian Blong Yumi project (SBY) tested the Community Scorecard approach for the first time in the Pacific, applying the CSC to Sexual and Reproductive Health services delivered by Vanuatu MoH health facilities serving 4 communities in Tafea Province.
The Storian Blong Yumi pilot of the CSC model in Vanuatu demonstrated results in the following areas, most strongly in the first two areas:
Stimulating dialogue between service providers and communities and overcoming social taboos to open up discussion within the community on SRH issues. Across all groups, including young men, who were the group that proved most difficult to engage, participants valued the process of community discussion. This dialogue appears to have been the basis for establishing better understanding and relationship between service providers and community members. This in turn seems to have laid the foundations for increased access to services by community members and responsiveness by service providers.
Increasing awareness of the SRH services available within their local health facility. Across groups of older and younger men and women in all locations people were aware of what family planning and STI services were available to them and what the role of the health staff were. in all locations, people who participated in the evaluation were more aware of what family planning and STI services were available to them and what the role of the health staff were. Men in all locations reported that they didn’t previously know what happened in the health centre regarding SRH, but now they have a better understanding. Read More...

Enquête Mid-line du projet Initiative Maman Lumière II de CARE Niger

CARE Niger dans le cadre de son programme d’appui aux efforts du gouvernement dans développement économique et social des Nigériennes et Nigériens à négocier et acquérir un financement du Ministère des Affaires Etrangères du Royaume de Luxembourg pour dérouler des actions devant contribuer à améliorer l’état sanitaire et nutritionnel des enfants pendant leurs 1000 premiers jours dans les régions de Zinder et Maradi à travers le projet dénommé « Maman lumière II » pour une période de 36 mois allant du 1er janvier 2017 au 31 décembre 2019.
Dans la mise en oeuvre de ce projet, CARE Niger en conformité avec sa stratégie de renforcement de la société civile et ses principes programmatiques notamment celui axé sur le travail avec les autres, oeuvre avec l’ONG FORSANI « Forum Santé Niger » en tant que partenaire de mise en oeuvre sur le terrain. Etude de base de l’Initiative Maman Lumière II de CARE Niger

L’enquête Maman Lumière a eu lieu du 14 au 27 octobre (conduite par sept (7) équipes de collecte dans la zone d’intervention du projet notamment dans les districts de Mirriah (Dogo et Droum) et Madarouumfa (Gabi et Safo). Elle vise à établir une situation de référence sur les indicateurs d’effets et d’impact du projet. Ce qui permettra d’apprécier, à d’autres étapes de la vie du projet, les changements intervenus dans les conditions de vie des bénéficiaires notamment en matière de lutte contre la malnutrition des enfants de moins de cinq (5) ans.
La méthodologie utilisée pour cette étude est basée sur un sondage par grappe à deux (2) degrés et de type panel. Les populations cibles sont définies selon les modules: les enfants de 6 à 59 mois et les femmes de 45 à 49 pour l’anthropométrie, les enfants de 0 à 23 mois pour l’ANJE, les enfants de 0 à 11 mois pour la vaccination. La collecte des données a été effectuée sur des tablettes avec l’application ODK (Open Data Kit). Au total, 78 villages ont été consernés par la collecte des données.

RAPPORT D’EVALUATION INITIALE DU PROJET « PROGRAMME INTEGRE D’ASSAINISSEMENT D’ANTANANARIVO (PIAA} – Volet Mission D’Actions de proximité via des ONGs»

CARE, à travers le Programme Intégré d’Assainissement d’Antananarivo (PIAA), met en oeuvre le projet «Volet Mission D'Action de proximité via des ONGs» dans 12 fokontany au niveau des quartiers vulnérables de la Commune Urbaine d’Antananarivo pendant 3 ans.
L’intervention consistera à:
1. Appuyer et sensibiliser les communautés locales pour le bon fonctionnement et l'entretien des infrastructures d'assainissement et principalement ceux réalisés dans le cadre du PIAA. Ces actions font référence en Particulier au problème de dépôt des déchets solides dans les canaux de drainage des quartiers qui pénalisent leur hydraulicité;
2. Sensibiliser la population locale en matière d'hygiène et de santé Publique, contribuant à réduire les risques sanitaires liées à la gestion des eaux usées ;
3. Proposer des activités liées à 1a réduction des risques et catastrophes, utiles pour réagir efficacement lors des évènements d'inondations.
L’objectif visent la pérennisation des acquis dans le cadre du PIAA (investissements, renforcement de capacités, améliorations obtenues en matière d’assainissement), en contribuant à l’intensification des prises de responsabilité des structures communautaires et des collectivités, ainsi qu’à la prise de conscience citoyenne des individus, face aux problèmes d’inondation et de gestion des eaux usées au sein de 12 fokontany au niveau des quartiers vulnérables de la Commune Urbaine d’Antananarivo.
En ce début du projet, CARE procédera à une évaluation initiale qui sera dirigée par un évaluateur externe et utilisera des méthodes qualitatives et quantitatives afin d'établir les points de référence par rapport auxquels les progrès de tous les indicateurs seront mesurés. Il mettra également en évidence les opportunités et les défis potentiels de l'application des approches proposées pour mieux informer la mise en oeuvre du projet. Read More...
