The goal of this program is to achieve a peaceful society where women and men are equally empowered to enjoy their human rights. Under this domain which will focus on this issue in Northern Uganda is WEP. Northern Uganda has been engulfed in a protracted conflict for over 20 years and is in a recovery period. Women are usually the most affected and vulnerable sect in this context. Therefore many developmental organizations targeted women as their main beneficiaries to curtail large percentage of those being vulnerable. Impact Study for the Forest Resources Sector Transparency Programme

CARE International in Uganda has been supporting the implementation of Forest Resources Sector Transparency (FOREST) Programme at National level and in districts of the Albertine Region since 2013. The goal is: “civil society has increased transparency, accountability and responsiveness in forest governance for the benefit of poor Ugandan citizens”. The programme was mainly implemented through six partners and other key stakeholders who are CSOs, the Media, Local Governments, NFA and Ministry of Water and Environment.

Northern Uganda Women Empowerment Program (NUWEP)

On July 2010 the Engaging Men Initiative started implementation in 10 CARE country offices. These COs used different mechanisms to implement the initiative. In some COs the initiative was integrated into ongoing Norad-supported Women Empowerment Programs (WEPs). Others implemented the initiative across the entire WEP portfolio of the CO, while in few COs men’s engagement supplemented smaller women empowerment projects. While the experience of working with men long existed in CARE, there has not been a deliberate attempt to target and mobilize men as allies to pursue CARE’s women’s empowerment agenda. There neither is the understanding/proper documentation of which strategies work best in this regards, or what the potential consequences of engaging men would be. The purpose with this reporting therefore is mainly to support the learning that is taking place within COs in the implementation of the Engaging Men Initiative through creating opportunity for critical reflection as well as the documentation of the key results. This 103 page report for the Adaptation Learning Programme (ALP) covers an extension period from July 2015 to June 2017. The extension period was funded by UKAid at the Department for International Development and Denmark’s Fund for Climate and Environment for NGOs managed by Civil Society in Development, as well as funds from the Australian Development Agency. The original ALP goal was maintained in the extension period: ‘to increase the capacity of vulnerable households in sub-Saharan Africa to adapt to climate variability and change,’ while the purpose was slightly modified: ‘Community-based adaptation (CBA) approached for vulnerable communities incorporated into development policies and programmes in Ghana, Kenya, and Niger, and replication ongoing in other countries in Africa.’ Read More...
