CARE Bangladesh is implementing Shomoshti-Prosperity for the Poor and Disadvantaged project in 28 Upazilas in 14 districts, clustered in 4 regions (Northwest, mid-North West, Southwest and Northeast) of Bangladesh. Shomoshti is a Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) mandated project implemented with five partner NGOs. Implementation of Social Accountability Framework (ISAF): Interim Report

The Implementation of Social Accountability Framework (ISAF) project is managed by CARE and its local NGO partners and involves priority actions including Information for Citizen (I4C) activities, budget awareness raising, and facilitation of the community scorecard approach and self-assessments. Significant progress was made towards achieving the I-SAF project goal during this reporting period from 01 November 2017 to 30 April 2018. The Implementation Plan of the Social Accountability Framework specifies the following implementation arrangements, which determines the roles and participation of the various actors and stakeholders. 272 Local None Governmental Organization (LNGO) partners were successfully recruited which 20 NGOs are implementing partners, four horizontal partners and three specialized training partners.
On all levels of government, national and sub-national levels, most authorities have shown an enthusiasm for the I-SAF project, particularly services providers at the district level. During the reporting period, Community Accountability Facilitators (CAFs) were completed refresher training in Module1-3 and ISAF cycle was readjusted to fit with CARE’s financial year. The inception meetings and I4C awareness meetings were conducted in all of CARE’s allocated districts, which were attended by government officials from the commune council, primary school, and health centre. SECOND TREND SURVEY REPORT 2ND DRAFT MAZIKO PROJECT (NUTRITION FOUNDATIONS FOR MOTHERS AND CHILDREN)

This report presents results of the 2014 second trend survey carried out by CARE Malawi, in March, 2014. The report is the source of information of outcome indicators for children, lactating and pregnant mothers’ wellbeing which include health, nutrition, water and sanitation gender and social empowerment. In addition to presenting values for the specific indicators CARE Malawi values the report because it provides valuable information on the status of its activities on women and children in term of access to basic needs such as food, nutrition and health. Krishi Utsho 2017 Annual Report

Krishi Utsho has emerged as a transformative social enterprise over the past several years as a way to identify and bring about progressive advancement in the lives of small holder farmers. As a social enterprise Krishi Utsho (KU) is equivalent to a hybrid of social sector intervention and pure business entrepreneurship, a social venture that can address problems of self-sustainability in a social intervention initiative. To succeed, these ventures must adhere to both social goals and financial viability. Typically, this project’s aim is to benefit small holder farmers, in particular women. It aims to permanently transform their lives by altering a prevailing socioeconomic equilibrium that works to their disadvantage. More importantly, the beneficiary group is an economically disadvantaged or marginalized segment of society that doesn’t have the means to transform its social or economic prospects without assistance. Bringing Agroforestry to Scale for Improved Livelihood in Care-Harande resilience zones (BrASIL)

The BrASIL project is a collaboration between the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) and CARE Mali (HARANDE Program) for maximizing synergies. The Goal of the Harande program, which means ‘food security’ in Peulh, is “Sustainable food, nutrition and income security for vulnerable household members in Youwarou, Tenenkou, Bandiagara and Douentza in Mopti region. The collaboration under BrASIL aim at ensuring a better intervention that takes full account of adaptation to climate change, optimal natural resource management and reduction of target communities’ vulnerability to climate change. ECRAS Enhancing Community Resilience and Sustainability Annual Report 2016/2017

The CARE led consortium has been one of the three consortiums implementing partners for the Zimbabwe Resilience Building Fund (ZRBF) UNDP and government of Zimbabwe programme for the July 2016 to June 2017 year. The consortium has been implementing the Enhancing Community Resilience and Sustainability (ECRAS) project in Chiredzi and Mwenezi districts of Masvingo province. The most common hazards for the two districts have been observed to be droughts and mid-season dry spells, crop and livestock pests and diseases resulting poor maize harvests, high cattle poverty death in the province and smallholder farmers getting very low prices for their cattle. Low lying wards in the two districts are prone to flooding. The 2016/17 agricultural season has been an exception. It was characterized by excessive rains which resulted in water logging, leaching and flooding. Potential crop yield was also negatively affected by breaks of armored cricket and fall armyworm. Flooding due to the effects of Tropical Cyclone Dineo resulted in loss of both human and livestock, washing away of some crop fields and damage to property such as houses, school and clinic buildings and destruction of bridges and roads. The cash crisis affecting the country has adversely affected some project interventions especially Village Savings and Lending (VSL). LFSP APN Rural Finance Technical Assistance Facility Phase 2

The quarter under review witnessed an exponential growth of MicroPlan’s portfolio under the Rural Finance Project. The total number of clients almost doubled from an annual 2016 cumulative figure of 982 in December 2016 to 1786 clients by March 2017 representing an 81% client growth (804 clients) across the five branches within three months. The total rural finance loan portfolio grew by 55% from annual cumulative total of USD 629, 726 in December 2016 to USD 975,947.75 in March 2017. This growth demonstrates the financial institution’s ability to create business and claim a significant market share in the rural areas and move the rural branches towards sustainability and profitability for long term operation in rural areas.
