Improving Harm Reduction Program in Thailand: An Assessment of the STOP TB and AIDS Through RRTTR (STAR) Program
Thailand continues to experience significant health and social challenges associated with illicit drug use, including injection drug use. Rates of infectious diseases among people who inject drugs (PWID) in Thailand remain high, and access to evidence-based addiction treatments remain low. This is due in part to Thailand’s continued emphasis on drug law enforcement, and the adverse impacts such emphasis has on the delivery of essential healthcare to people who use drugs. Assessment to improve the Harm Reduction Program
Since 2015, Raks Thai Foundation is the PR under the NFM. Under their Stop TB and AIDS through RRTTR (STAR) Programme, the Harm Reduction program is active in 12 provinces, providing 14 dropin centers (DICs), outreach activities, distribution of needles and syringes, information packages and condoms, referral to HIV and STI testing and treatment and other health services and referrals to Methadone maintenance treatment for PWIDs. The service providers are RTF with two DICs, O-Zone with 8 DICs, and Thai Drug Users Network (TDN) with 4 DICs. NSP is only available in the DICs and through outreach of these centers; the number of NSP has been reduced due to the close down of DICs and the termination of partnerships with local pharmacies under the NFM. The number of needles distributed per person per year is 144. According to program data from RTF, the Harm Reduction program is reaching about 7,000-9,000 PWID per year in the 12 provinces or around 16-20% of the national estimate of PWID in need of Harm Reduction services. Smart Nutrition Survey Panrieng County
Global Acute Malnutrition rate is at 24.2% which is above the WHO threshold of 15% for critical. Severe & Moderate Acute Malnutrition was 6.1% & 18.1% respectively. The prevalence of Acute Malnutrition is the same in both boys and girls. IYCF indicators are depressing with poor nutritional status. Developing Local Extension Capacity (DLEC) Project
The Developing Local Extension Capacity (DLEC) project’s planned engagement in Malawi leverages CARE’s existing Pathways to Secure Livelihoods Program (Pathways) already operating in the country. Pathways aims to empower poor women smallholder farmers to overcome the gender-based constraints that hinder women’s productive and equitable engagement in agriculture by achieving three inter-related objectives: 1) Increase the productive engagement of 65,000 poor women in sustainable agriculture and contribute to their empowerment; 2) Enhance the scale of high-quality, women-responsive agriculture programming at CARE; and 3) Contribute to the global discourse that surrounds women and agriculture. The cornerstone of Pathways is the Farmer Field and Business School (FFBS) model of integrated extension and advisory services (EAS). Designed as a common program intervention model, the FFBS aims to go beyond demonstrating agricultural practices that can increase yields, to build capacity and essential skills around market engagement, gender equity and empowerment issues, and nutrition practices. The engagement will create and disseminate digital content across these four domains based on existing FFBS modules, and provide evidence for the relative efficacy of two different content platforms, measured by adoption of practices. Patsy Collins Trust Fund Initiative (PCTFI) Situation Analysis Study Report
The situation analysis was conducted in order to produce a comprehensive report for the Malawi Patsy Collins Trust Fund Initiative (PCTFI) to be implemented in Kasungu district. Malawi continues to face a number of major obstacles in creating a stable and sustainable educational system for its children, in particular for the girls. CARE Malawi is already implementing a number of other projects in Kasungu district and in order to contribute to solving the educational problems in the country, CARE Malawi was looking at maximizing the impact and synergy of its programs by increasing intra-sector and cross-sector coordination and collaboration and narrowing the spread of the programs by mapping and prioritizing key geographical areas of coverage. It was therefore felt that a Situational Analysis would be useful to get a better idea of the prevailing situation in Kasungu that the PCTFI project was to address.

Abdiboru Project Mini-Assessment Report
Improving adolescent reproductive health and nutrition through structural solutions is a project to be implemented in West Hararghe zone, Oromia, Ethiopia. The project is implemented in four selected woredas of West Hararghe Zone: Chiro, Boke, Mesela and Anchar. It is a five-year project running from October 2015 to September 2020.
Abdiboru project seeks to test a set of interventions, including social norms and structural issues, aimed at improving the reproductive health and nutritional status of adolescent girls; specifically reduction of early marriage, improving educational attainment, gender equitable food allocation, contraception use and empowerment. The intervention target are adolescent girls in the age group 10-14 year. However, adolescent boys, adult male and female community members, parents, husbands, in-laws, school environment, governmental structure, religious leaders and other influential people in their area are also important stakeholders of the project.
